Roman Provincial

SYRIA, Coele-Syria. Damascus. Philip I. AD 244-249. Æ (30mm, 15.66 g, 12h). Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left / Tyche seated left on rocky outcropping, holding filleted club and cornucopia; above, ram leaping left; to left, Marsyas (largely indistinct) standing right; below, lighted altar flanked by four deities wearing mural crowns and extending arms towards Tyche. Unpublished in the standard references. Near VF, green patina. Rare reverse type, more common for Otacilia and apparently only previously known for Philip with a bust left, seen from the front (see DNW A6, lot 5722 = CNG E-208, lot 215).
